My name is Duc.

I am 18 years old.

I am deaf.

I am from Vietnam.

I came  to Germany alone.

Without  father and mother.

I flew to the Czech Republic.

Than by car.

I drove a long way.

Crossed the border by foot.

Secretly.

Walked to Berlin.

The police arrested me on the street.

I can’t hear.

I can’t speak.

Us. We are a group, Inara, Asja, Yasemin Hend, Simone, Rukiye, Duc, Quoc, Frank, Peter, Nikola, Jason, Erdal, Dusan and me, Cordula. Yeah. 15 people, 12 migrants, deaf, hearing impaired, hearing  and  multiply impaired. We live in Berlin. He is from Serbia and I am from Bonn. Why did they all come here?

YAESMIN AKAN INTERVIEWS HER MOTHER

Tochter:  Mom where were you born?

Mutter:   Turkey, Ersyryn.

 

Tochter:  Why did you come to Germany?

Mutter:    Because I married.

 

Tochter:  When did you come to Germany?

Mutter:    I was 15.

 

Tochter:  Where was your favorite place when you were a child?

Mutter:    Village.

 

Tochter:  How old were you when you got married?

Mutter:    I was 16.

 

Tochter:   At what age was your life the best?

Mutter:    I was happy as a child.

 

Tochter:  Do you believe in Allah?

Mutter:    Yes.

 

Tochter:  Why don’t you wear a headscarf?

Mutter:    She hushes.

 

 

Tochter:  Do you have German friends?

Mutter:    No.

 

Tochter:  Why don’t you have any German friends?

Mutter:    We have contact with the Germans but no friends.

 

Tochter:  Are you Turkish or German?

Mutter:    I am Turkish.

 

Tochter:  Which passport do you have?

Mutter:    German passport.

 

 

Tochter:  Where is your homeland?

Mutter:    Turkey.

 

Tochter:  Do you want to migrate back to Turkey?

Mutter:    No.

PUTTING ON A  HEADSCARF

We open our hair and tie it in a knot.

We wrap our hair in a scarf, which will give us a nicer head form.  Then we fix it with pins.

We cover all of our hair with a bone.

MEDEA! DIE WAHRHEIT! || ME DEA F is a play by Till Nikolaus von Heiseler according to pre-euripidean sources played by deaf, hard of hearing and hearing young people for the deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people in a production directed by Michaela Caspar.

Opening: 09.12.2011, 8 p.m. at Ballhaus Ost, Berlin.
